[DRAFT] Mayor declares State of Emergency for Town effective at 1PM on February 12, 2014

This declaration by Mayor W. David McNeill, Jr. is due to the winter storm that is impacting the area which has the potential for creating icy/impassible roads, downed trees, downed power lines and power outages.

Citizens and visitors should only travel the road ways in the event of emergencies or necessity as the roads are becoming snow covered at this time and dangerous to navigate. Unnecessarily traveling roads puts yourself as well as others at risk. In addition, Town of Southern Pines crews will not be clearing streets until it is safe to do so meaning most town maintained streets may not be cleared until the event loses intensity. Also for those that may lose power or just need somewhere to stay through this event the local emergency shelter is at the Southern Middle School located at 515 Johnson Street Aberdeen, NC 28315. This is a pet friendly shelter. In the event you should need non-emergency assistance, you may call the Town of Southern Pines Fire/Rescue Department at 910-692-2720. If you have an emergency please dial 911.
