Limited Services FAQ

The library building is closed to the public. Remote resources and contactless curbside are available.

What resources are currently available?

Contactless curbside will be available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. starting Monday, May 18th. Reserve items anytime through your online patron account, or place holds over the phone during curbside hours by calling 910-692-8235 and pressing 2. You may place up to five (5) holds per card. Holds placed before 12 p.m. will be available for pickup during the afternoon hours. Holds placed after 12 p.m. will be available the next business day. Due to demand, the Library requests that patrons only use this service every 3 days. Learn about the process for holds under "How do I pick up my holds?" located in the Building Access & Patron Accounts section.

The Library opened a 24/7 kiosk with books, audiobooks, and DVDs available to circulate. It is located at the new Fire Station, FS 82 (7850 NC Hwy 22, Carthage, NC 28327). Learn more about our 24/7 kiosk called SPARK.

The Library provides a wide array of digital offerings, including eBooks, research databases, and specialty online resources. Do you know when the library will reopen?

No. The library does not currently have a definitive date on the building reopening to the public.

What if my items are due? Will I accrue late fees?

The due dates for all checked-out materials are extended to June 15, 2020. There will be no late fees on materials that were originally due during the closure period. Email or call the library if your item(s) are not extended to June 15 - we will work to fix the issue in a timely manner.

Can I drop off my items in the outdoor book drop?

Yes, the book drop is open at the downtown location Monday through Friday. The book drop closes at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and will open again Monday at 8:30 a.m. Items returned will be held for 72 hours prior to check-in. Once the 72 hours period has passed, items will be checked into the system and removed from your account. The book drop remains closed at SPARK.

How can I pick up my holds?

To pick up items, drive or walk up and wait in one of the designated curbside parking spaces in the Library parking lot, call 910-692-8235, and press 1. You will need your library card number to complete the transaction. Let the library staff member know you are here to pickup books. Read them your library card number, and verify your name and curbside parking spot number. The library staff member will bring your items out in a bag and place them on the book cart shelf that corresponds to your parking space number. The bag will have your last name attached. Once your materials are placed on the cart, you may retrieve them.

My library card is about to expire. How can I renew?

All library card accounts set to expire after March 1, 2020 have been extended to June 15, 2020. Email or call the library if your account is not extended to June 15 - we will work to fix the issue in a timely manner.

Are you taking book donations?

No. The library is currently not taking any book donations. Do not leave book donations in the book drop.
