The library building is open! What can I do inside? 

The library building is open to the public starting Monday, June 15th. Computers are available to patrons for 1 hour a day. Holds may be picked up at Desk 1. Library staff will help you register for a library card and/or pull books from the collection at Desk 2. New books are available for browsing at your leisure. Checkout items at the two Self Checkout stations. 

Please check in with the Library Greeter prior to entering the library. Only 10 people are allowed in the library at one time. Library stacks, play areas, tables, meeting rooms, and other seating are closed. Due to demand, patrons may either place 5 items on hold or request 5 items in-person from the collection. No restriction limits are in place for new books available for browsing.  

No programs will be held in-person at this time.

What can I do outside of the Library?

Contactless curbside will be available Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Monday, June 15. Reserve items anytime through your online patron account, or place holds over the phone during curbside hours by calling 910-692-8235 and pressing 2. You may place up to 5 holds per card. 

Visit the library’s Story Walk - an outdoor walking path displaying an interactive children’s story. Access the internet with the Drive-In Library WiFi, available in the parking spaces outside the Library and Sunrise Theater.

The Library opened a 24/7 kiosk with books, audiobooks, and DVDs available to circulate. It is located at the new Fire Station, FS 82 (7850 NC Hwy 22, Carthage, NC 28327). Learn more about our 24/7 kiosk called SPARK.

What can I do online?

Services: Sign-up for an eCard to access online resources for 30 days. Complete the Next Reads online form to receive book recommendations tailored specifically to you. Sign-up for the library’s brand new email newsletter, Shelf Life.

Resources: The Library provides a wide array of digital offerings, including eBooks, research databases, and specialty online resources. You may view a listing of our online resources for eBook & eAudiobook collections, business & investing, health & medicine, and jobs & careers. Looking for something fun to do? Try learning a new language with Mango Languages, create something beautiful with Creativebug, or tune up your car with Auto Repair Source.

Programs: Little Clips for Little Readers are short videos tailored to children birth through 5 years of age. They will be release periodically on the library’s Facebook page. Videos will be archived on the library’s YouTube page. Adults can join the Page Turners Virtual Book Club on Facebook or participate in monthly online meetings on June 30, July 28, and August 25. The Writer’s Group meets via Zoom the first Sunday of the month at 3:00 p.m.

Do you know when the library will reopen?

The library is open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Monday, June 15th. 

What if my items are due? Will I accrue late fees?

Materials checked out between March 1, 2020 to June 15, 2020 are due on June 15, 2020There will be no late fees on materials while the library is on restricted hours. Email or call the library if you encounter an issue with your account - staff will work to fix the issue in a timely manner.

Can I drop off my items in the outdoor book drop?

All materials can be returned through the indoor, outdoor, or 24/7 Kiosk book drops. Items will be quarantined upon return for up to 1 week before being checked-in. DVDs and audiobooks are allowed to be returned at an outdoor book drop at this time. 

How can I pick up my holds?

For Curbside Service: To pick up items, drive or walk up and wait in one of the designated curbside parking spaces in the Library parking lot, call 910-692-8235, and press 1. You will need your library card number to complete the transaction. Let the library staff member know you are here to pickup books. Read them your library card number, and verify your name and curbside parking spot number. The library staff member will bring your items out in a bag and place them on the book cart shelf corresponding to your parking space number. The bag will have your last name attached. Once your materials are placed on the cart, you may retrieve them.

Inside the Library: Once you check in with the Library Greeter, you will be able to pick up your holds at the front desk. 

My library card is about to expire. How can I renew?

All library card accounts set to expire between March 1, 2020 to July 31, 2020 have been extended until September 10, 2020. Patrons that purchased a card where the period included the time we were closed have been extended by 3 months.

Are you taking book donations?

No. The library is currently not taking any book donations. Do not leave book donations in the book drop.
