Getting Involved

Boards & Commissions

Southern Pines wholeheartedly encourages residents to get involved in planning and guiding town programs and services. Citizens can apply to be appointed by Town Council to one of the regular boards and commissions, including the Planning Board, Library Advisory Board, Historic District Commission, Appearance Commission, and Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee.

Occasionally the town also forms special committees that citizens can participate in, such as the one which guided the development of the Comprehensive Long-Range Plan. You can find out more about these committees and the application process to join them online.

Citizens Academy

The Academy will offer citizens insight into how the Town functions held within the different Town Departments and with Town staff and elected officials.

Organizations

As a town, we are lucky to have a host of non-profit organizations dedicated to the culture and prosperity of our community. The Southern Pines Business Association (SPBA) is just one, and this group joins forces with the town every year to cosponsor major annual events such as Springfest, held on the last Saturday of April, and the Christmas Parade.

Farmer's Market

The Moore County Farmer's Market is hosted in Southern Pines at the Downtown Park at the corner of Southeast Broad Street and New York Avenue every Saturday morning 8 a.m. to noon, mid-April through the end of October and at the Armory Sports Complex on Morganton Road on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. year round.

Local producers from the area come to provide our community with fresh, local, and seasonal fruit, vegetables, and produce, along with crafts, baked goods, jams, and other fine goods.

Other

Several countywide organizations, such as Keep Moore County Beautiful and the Arts Council of Moore County, whose galleries are housed in Southern Pines' Campbell House, are also active in our community. There are many opportunities for you to get involved in any of these or other organizations in our area. If you're interested, please find their contact info on their independent sites.
