[ARCHIVED] Food Truck Requirements During Power Outage

Welcome Food Trucks

Moore County is under a declared State of Emergency due to the widespread and significant power outages due to criminal activity at two of our power substations. We recognize that food trucks are uniquely structured to operate “off the grid” and fill an important community need during this time.

The Town of Southern Pines offers its appreciation to the many food trucks who are successfully providing warm meals to the community, and, in response, the Town is has currently waived local requirements for food truck operations. The following is important information about these coordinated efforts and resources.

Red’s Corner is a food truck campus located near downtown Southern Pines at 901 SW Broad Street. The Town has temporarily waived local zoning/permit requirements so Red’s Corner can accommodate additional food trucks on-site. Food trucks should directly contact the Red’s Corner team at redscornersp@gmail.com.

The Town of Southern Pines is directing food trucks to two areas under the Town’s purview: 1) the blocks of Broad Street between Connecticut Avenue and Vermont Avenue and 2) the parking lots at Pool Park, located at 735 S Stephens St.

Food trucks may set up on any commercially zoned property if they have received written permission from the property owner. No formal permission is needed on the Broad Street blocks or in Pool Park.

The Town has temporarily waived the requirement for food trucks to obtain a Town permit.

All food trucks should confirm food service requirements with the Moore County Environmental Health Department. The Town does not have the authority to waive any regulatory requirements which are not under the Town’s purview.

Operating hours should comply with the curfew currently in effect in Moore County, with service only during the hours of 5am until 9pm.

The Town’s waiver of local requirements will expire at 11:59 pm on Friday, December 9. For any specific questions related to food truck permits and set-up, please contact Code Enforcement Officer Lisa Webb at 910-692-4003 or lwebb@southernpines.net.
