Notification #2 Regarding State of Emergency and Office Closings
The State of Emergency declared in Southern Pines will continue until further notice. As challenges continue with flooding, road closures, and power outages throughout the Sandhills area, Town of Southern Pines offices will remain closed on Monday September 17th. Emergency responders will continue to work throughout the coming days in response to the effects of Hurricane Florence. Residents are asked to remain patient and use sound judgement when traveling the area. Localized flooding, removal of debris, and work on downed power lines will mandate road closures and detours in addition to traffic signals potentially remaining non-functional until power is fully restored.
Waste Industries plans to pick up the Monday route beginning with a two hour delay. Should their employees have difficulty getting to work, these plans are subject to change.
Residents may report any new or additional power outages as trees continue to come down to Duke Energy by calling 1-800-419-6356. Blocked roads should be reported by calling the Southern Pines Police Dispatch Center at 910-692-7031.
Thank you to all of the men and women tirelessly responding to the many scenarios being thrown at them during this extreme weather event, the businesses and individuals that have stepped forward to support them, and the general public for your patience, understanding, and willingness to remain at home and allow emergency workers to perform their jobs without unnecessary interference.
