Final Notification Regarding
State of Emergency and Office Closings
The State of
Emergency declared in Southern Pines during the events of Hurricane Florence
has been lifted.
As of Noon
09/20/18, all Town owned and operated facilities are once again operational
with direct power and no need for generator assistance. Office hours and public
services have returned to normal, with the exception of garbage pick up. The
collection of TRASH ONLY will continue through Friday's route, with normal
recycling and yard debris schedules beginning Monday 09/24.
Amongst the 178
non-police related calls dispatched from
the Town Emergency Operations
Center, 72 involved direct storm damage and 46 were related to electrical hazards (generally lines downed by fallen trees.) Town
Fire, Police, Public Works, and Water and Sewer crews in addition to
support personnel worked tirelessly
throughout the event to keep roads cleared, property
safe, and damaged lines accessible
to Duke Energy and their contractors
despite the often challenging circumstances.
Damage
assessments relative to private equipment, machinery, inventory, and lost
revenue are only beginning. Our hearts go out to those experiencing flooding in
northern Moore County and our surrounding areas, in addition to communities
east of us who have suffered devastating damages.
Thank you to our
residents for their continued patience throughout recovery efforts from this
significant storm event.
Reagan D. Parsons
Southern Pines Town Manager
