[ARCHIVED] Citizens Academy applications are now being accepted

Citizens Academy Graduating Class 2017-2018

Apply now to the 2018-2019 Town of Southern Pines Citizens Academy.

The goal of this program is to open conversations and communication and promote collaboration between residents and their government. The schedule covers Town programs, services, policies, procedures and a behind the scenes look at how the government operates.

The Academy offers citizens insight into how the Town functions through sessions held within the different Town Departments and with Town staff and elected officials. Most sessions are held at the department itself, with the staff providing a tour and an overview of department functions, and with a question and answer session at the end of each program. As they attend each program, participants build a guide to the Town and its services, that will help them be better informed and aid them when doing business with the Town of Southern Pines.

Sessions will be held February through May, with Certificates awarded in June. In order to graduate from the Academy, participants are expected to attend four out of five sessions, one Board or Council meeting, and complete a final program evaluation.

Application to the program is required, and  class size will be limited to 20 participants to allow for maximum interaction, discussion, and hands-on activities. Acceptance will be based on a first-come, first-served basis. Space permitting, citizens may attend individual sessions by calling the Southern Pines Public Library at 910-692-8235 to preregister.
