Computers & Internet

The library offers public computers for use by cardholders. Cardholders may access the computers for up to two hours per day. Library computers do not have the ability to save your work, so please bring a thumb drive in order to save work done on library computers. If you do not have a flash drive, you may purchase one through the Friends of the Library for $5.

Non-cardholders may use the library's kiosk computer for up to 15 minutes per day, free of charge. There is a $10 fee per hour after the 15 minutes of usage ends.

Free WiFi is available inside and outside the library premises.

Mobile Printing

With the library's new Mobile Print service, you can use your personal computer or mobile device to print directly to the library’s printers from anywhere. Simply submit documents for printing and come to the library during operational hours to release, pay, and print your documents.

Black and white printing is 15 cents per page, and color printing is 25 cents per page. Cash or check payment only.

A library card is not required to use the library's fax, scan, or copy services.

One-on-One Technology Help

The Southern Pines Public Library offers one-on-one technology help sessions by appointment. A library staff member will sit with you one-on-one to assist with accessing eBooks, learning a new device or software, or other basic technology questions. Sessions can be up to one hour, with a maximum of two sessions per person per month.

To request a technology help appointment, simply come to the library and fill out the appointment form with some information about your preferred dates and times, how to contact you, and the specific assistance you are requesting. A library staff member will contact you to finalize your appointment.

Library staff cannot assist with repairing broken or locked devices, recovering passwords or accounts, or with any activities involving credit cards or personal financial information. Library staff cannot advise you in legal, medical, financial, or tax matters.

Accessibility

In order to make the Library more accessible to patrons of all abilities, the Library has recently added new devices to promote use of the computers by patrons with visual and physical impairments. Supplies include: a large print/high contrast keyboard, LCD Magnifier, Privacy Screens, Roller Ball Mouse, and Dragon Naturally Speaking Software. Patrons can ask at the Reference Desk to be setup to use any of these materials in the Library.
